Phoenix Dental Assistant Gives Unforgettable Gift to Mother of Special Needs Patient

“Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are”.

This famous quote from Harold S. Kutcher comes to mind, when hearing the heartwarming story about a local Arizona dentist office and their compassion, service and heart warming kindness, toward a special needs patient and his mother.

Back in April, Dental Assistant  Naty Kruz at Norterra Kids Dentistry  , provided the kind of experience all parents hope their children can receive, especially at a place that somHeadshot rounde see daunting for children: The Dentist.  Dr. Lisa Bienstock tells us that in their office, above and beyond care is what every member of their team strives for.

“Our goal is to make every patient and their family leave feeling good about their visit, knowing the dentist doesn’t have to be a scary place! It can be a comforting and fun experience and THAT is what we strive to make it for each patient and parent alike.

Not unlike any other day,  Dr. Allison Inouye, and her team had a special needs patient in office who needed IV sedation for a dental procedure. His mother,  as many patients’  loving mothers can be, was a little nervous and wanted to sit with her son during the procedure to make him feel comforted.Dr Allie

As the team began the procedure, the dental assistant gently tucked the patient’s hair behind his ears. Mom shared with them that her son’s hair had gotten a little longer that she admittedly likes; she has been wanting so badly to get her son a haircut, however she had been putting it aside out of fear the situation would be too scary and stressful for her son.

She mentioned in passing how great it would be if he could get a haircut while he was under sedation, as it would be so much less stressful and frightening for him. While the mother was only daydreaming of the possibility of saving her son a stressful future experience at the barber,  they were delivering exactly what she wished for. What mom didn’t know, is  the Dental Assistant that day…also happened to be a Hairdresser.

As soon as she heard about the mother’s desire for a stress-free haircut for her son, IMG-5012 (1)she ran to her car to check what tools she had on hand. Naty showed up a few minutes later, shears and clippers in hand, and a giant smile on her face. Naty went to work on the patient’s hair,  trimming and snipping each strand to the perfect length for summer.

Mom, the Norterra dental team and even Naty had tears brought to their eyes, as they witnessed the transformation. They were not only able to make the patient’s dental procedure a stress-free one, but they were also able to give this little boy and his mother, the gift of a stress-free haircut. A gift that so many of us take for granted each day, meant the world to this mom and her son.   Mom was so thankful to Naty and Dr Bienstock’s team, for giving her and her son this gift, and for the kindness, compassion provided.

Dr. Allie & Dr. Bienstock had some grateful words for Naty they wanted to share: “Naty, you are a rock star and exactly the type of person we strive to have on our team. Thank you for the kind heart, as well as impeccable detail and care for every patient that walks through our door. Today we honor you! Thank you.”
